Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.
— Oscar Wilde.
I am currently a first fashion student, doing a BA Hons in Fashion Marketing and Retail Design at the University of South Wales. I grew up in the countryside of England in the West Midlands, so my fashion was quite limited to what I would see compared to what I now see in now living in a capital city. I see so much more different cultures as I walk through town and I enjoy seeing how they are different. This has made me more interested in different cultures which effects what I now look at for inspiration online. This is the same when I am walking in university seeing people from different parts of the UK.
My experience in the fashion industry is limited to what I see online, on the television and what I see in person. However, I have got a GCSE and an A level in textiles which I think also plays a part in how I look at a garment and the quality as I do prefer any clothing I buy to be of a good quality over the products that are being made through fast fashion which are cheaply made from brands such as Primark.
I have been to a couple places for some inspiration on how people now view clothing in shops and how they are effect sales. I’ve been to London, Antwerp and Berlin and comparing those places and the shops it seems that Berlin is the trend setter which I feel the other places tend to follow on and copy. From what I have seen the future of shopping in the high street is going to be different as I saw that shops have now only one item of that product out and you ask the workers for the size you want to try or buy. This gives the shop a cleaner vibe I feel as there is more space in the shop to be able to view the product which gives a higher chance of the customer buying the product.
I will be writing more blogs in the future based on topics given to me by my lecturer which I will be giving my opinions on coming from the view of a consumer who grew up with the ease of technology. This could be from buying with ease products online to physically buying products from the shop in town. Or it could be what is happening at the moment and how it is going to affect fashion in the future.
